World B. Free and Nike Blazer LE “World B. Free”

The Nike Blazer High LE showed above is inspired by the former Leonard Bernard, World B. Free, who was on the court back in the 1970’s and now he is in the front office of the Philadelphia 76ers. World B. Free did not just decide to call himself “World”; he earned the name on the playgrounds of New York. That name was given by Herb Smith. “This guy named a lot of guys at the Rucker. I was doing 360 slam dunks and once he saw that he said ‘All-World’ and the crowd really got into it. So, you had a ‘Helicopter’ (Herman Knowings) and now you had a ‘World.’ It came from the streets – like James ‘Fly’ Williams, Phil ‘the Thrill’ Sellers. This guy Herb Smith was naming everybody. When you got a tag, then that meant that you had a chance to go far.”

So Nike is honoring the legend with a pair of Nike Blazers in a psychedelic tie-dye design in a dark obsidian and pro gold.It looks like the latest House of Hoops-exclusive Nikes will be ‘Free’.  Featuring a tie-dyed canvas upper with leather accents, these bright kicks hearken back to the 1970’s heyday of one of the NBA’s truly unique players.  A nice look for the warm weather, these will release on Friday, June 12, and only at the Foot Locker House of Hoops locations in NYC, Chicago and LA.
